In 1938, Samuel Koenig, director of the Connecticut Ethnic Survey, conducted a study of the Jewish community in Stamford. Titled An American Jewish Community: The Story of the Jews in Stamford, Connecticut, Koenig's goal was to give a comprehensive historical , eecomonic and social picture of a Jewish community, with special emphasis on the organizations and institutions that Stamford's Jews had created to help them assimilate into American society while preserving their cultural heritage.
